Introduces a 10-15 cm posterior approach for total hip arthroplasty that provides a safe avenue for unilateral primary elective hip replacement. Although one patient suffered a postoperative dislocation, there were no cases of infection, loosening, intraoperative fractures, pulmonary embolisms, deep vein thromboses, nerve injuries, or cases of greater trochanteric bursitis. Blood loss for this technique is limited; the mean surgical time 37 minutes; mean hospital stay is 3.5 days.
