Area of Focus: Trauma
Shows the surgical technique of treating proximal humerus fractures with locked plating. Although hemiarthroplasty is generally reliable, complications—tuberosity nonunion, restricted motion, and persistent pain—are frequent and devastating. With the advent of rigid locked plating technology, fractures that were previously considered too unstable for fixation can now be reproducibly repaired, sparing the native joint and allowing for early range of motion.
